The All Rise singer has been in bottom two twice now but says he’s determined to pick up his game.
“I think of my daughter’s face [when I dance] and about when she smiles. I see her braces and I think, ‘That’s my girl — I made her’, Simon told the Sun. “That’s who I am dancing for.”
“When we were in the bottom two, I felt gutted. My legs were shaking so much. I looked around me and thought, ‘Imagine if you can’t walk into this room next week’.”
Simon – who’s paired with Kristina Rihanoff – credits her for helping to keep him calm during their daily, six hour, training sessions.
He added: “Kristina is a fantastic teacher and told me to be myself. We have so much banter going on. I take the mickey out of her accent and voice.
She leaves me lying on the floor gasping for breath, walking around me like a shark and getting her breath back.”
“This is way harder than anything I have ever done before. It’s so surreal. I mean, how does a guy from Moss Side end up doing ballroom? People can see me as me. They can see my personality shine through.
“I am so glad I signed up for the show.”
We’re glad too, Simon.
Now work on hip rotations, pronto.
