5 Seconds of Summer singer Ashton Irwin was just hours from death before having an emergency operation to have his appendix removed last month.

The star would have become gravely ill if he travelled with his band who were due to fly the day he became poorly.

He told The Sun: “If I went on a plane it would’ve burst – and I was meant to get on a plane that day.”

The band was due to appear at The Radio 1 Teen Awards in London but cancelled their trip to the UK from Australia when Ashton became sick.

At the time, a spokesperson for the boys said: “Ashton Irwin from 5 Seconds of Summer was admitted to hospital in Sydney with appendicitis yesterday and has subsequently had an operation to remove his appendix.”

The star has now recovered from his ordeal but things seem to have gone from bad to worse for the musician – he wasn’t allowed to keep the extracted body part and his belly button is now deformed.

After his treatment, he tweeted: “You know when ya think you have a normal belly button... And then you have surgery and you’re belly button is now butt ugly.”

Ah well, Ashton. At least you’re still alive...
