1. Dogs are welcome
This is a fully dog-friendly festival with pet pooches fully immersed in the fancy dressed vibe and a dog show which features loads of prizes, including the Community Award which this year was snapped up by police dog Finn.
2. Its fancy dress goals
Even the mud and drizzle couldn’t take the sunshine away from this impressive procession, which has become a festival staple. This year’s fancy dress theme was Twisted Creatures and there was a whole lot of love on show from people who had clearly spent months on their costumes. Respect.
3. You can live out your rock star fantasies on the main stage
Rockaoke real festival highlight for us, this even in the Lawn saw amateur singers belt out their favourite rock anthems accompanied by a live band. The atmosphere in the tent was electric with some incredible stand out performers who got the chance to smash it on the main stage the following day.
4. There’s an actual swimming pool (yes, really!)
If you don’t manage to make it to the showers on the campsite (ahem!) there is a unique opportunity to cool off in the heated swimming pool which is manned by lifeguards and open from 9am to 5pm every day.
5. The kids area is awesome
Loads of festivals cater for families these days but the kids area at Standon works just as hard as the rest of the site. Craft sessions, circus skills, comedy skits, talent shows… there was always something going on to keep the little people entertained. And the best bit is the kids area has a cracking view of the main stage so mum and dad don’t need to miss out.

6. The music line-up is on point
They haven’t skimped on the talent for this festival with headliners including RagNBone Man, Chic ft Nile Rodgers, Wolf Alice and Norman Jay – there genuinely is something for everyone. But our highlight was festival faves The Cuban Brothers, who’s unique style of breakdancing, great choons and hilarious, erm, ‘outfits’ are always a crowd pleaser #ifyouknowyouknow
7. The Wild Wellbeing Camp is our new home
When things are all getting a bit too much you can retreat to the wellness hub for a soothing massage, a relax in the hot tub or even a posh toilet. The only problem is that you might find yourself so chilled out you’ll never want to leave.
8. You can leave your wallet at home
Well, not quite, but this is a cashless festival meaning you can load up your wristband and pay with a quick beep. It saves you having to carry loads of cash on you and is a great way of keeping track of your spending so you don’t accidentally drop £100 at the Żubrówka vodka bar.
Tickets for Standon Calling 2020 are already on sale. The festival takes place on 23-26 July and tickets cost from £129 atstandon-calling.com
