When we think 90s fashion the first thing that springs to mind is texture. And lots of it. From the bright, day-glo of 90s rave to the beautifully melancholic grunge subculture, the 90s was all about experimenting with prints and fabrics. Recently, it seems this obsession with all things bold has come back with a bang as 90s fashion is enjoying a highly coveted comeback.
Earlier this year we saw 90s sports chic blast back on to the scene with the revival of sportswear brand Fila and the return of the notorious bucket hat (we’re not too sure on this one, though).
Now, we’re channeling our inner Cher Horowitz of Clueless fame and OBSESSING over the Velvet Slip Dress. Side note: we were going to try and introduce a new acronym à la LBD, but VSD sounds more like a sexually transmitted disease than a wardrobe style staple so we’ll move swiftly on…
Cher was our ultimate style icon, with her bold co-ords and penchant for plaid. BUT it was her slinky red velvet number that really caught our eye and, it seems, now’s our chance to recreate the look as velvet slip dresses are taking the fashion world by storm. Team with a t-shirt for a throwback daytime look or try a midi dress for an evening out with friends.

How can you work the 90s trend into your makeup?
Now you've mastered the uniform, to really go all out retro you'll need to channel 90s babe Liv Tyler's beauty look. Complete with nude/brown lippy, shimmering eyeshadow and metalic nails.
What about 90s hair?
When we look back to our 90s hair-dos, we're haunted with the memory of bejazzled alice bands and burrowing as many gems into our barnets as physically possible. Rest assured, we're not suggesting a complete revival of that look, but for a modern take on a 90s trend, try adding a few subtle gems into your locks. We looked to Instagram for inspiration.
