Fans have gone wild for their chemistry on their hit podcast The Therapy Crouch, where they’re often candid about their marriage. And now Abbey Clancy and husband Peter Crouch could be set to be the new TV presenting power couple, as sources tell heat they’re being eyed up for This Morning.
‘ITV have been chasing Peter and Abbey for a long time now, and they are ready to make them an offer to be guest presenters on the show,’ an insider says. ‘Abbey is funny, beautiful and a lot more interested in news and current affairs than people give her credit for, and Peter is already a superb presenter in his own right. Producers think they’ll be a huge hit with viewers.’
And we’re told model Abbey, 39, has been given some stellar advice from none other than This Morning veteran Holly Willoughby, who she’s been close friends with for years. Holly, 44, presented the show for 14 years, before stepping down in October 2023, following both the scandal surrounding her former best friend and colleague Phillip Schofield and the foiled kidnap and murder plot against her.
But far from being bitter, Holly – who shared a cosy Instagram selfie with Abbey earlier this month – has been supporting her friend. ‘This Morning is still one of the biggest gigs on TV, and there's an opportunity for a couple to become the new Phil and Holly. Even though they’re really close pals, Holly is totally relaxed with the idea. She’s actually been encouraging her to go for it and giving her lots of advice,’ the source continues.
‘Holly may have had a messy exit from the show, but she still loves the people who work on it, and she has assured Abbey and Peter that they’d be welcomed with open arms. Peter and Abbey also know lots of celebrities, and producers think that they will be able to bring in some high-profile guests. Talks are set to continue in the coming weeks.’
And it seems as though the deal would be a match made in heaven, as Abbey and former footballer Peter, 44, already love working together, and they’re hoping it’ll boost their marriage even further. ‘Abbey and Peter are really keen on the idea,’ the insider continues. ‘They think they’re more than capable and are really up for the challenge. Pete’s often away with football, so working together is when they get to spend the most quality time as a couple. They will often have dinner and stay away in a nice hotel afterwards, which helps to bring them even closer.’
While their marriage is now in a great place, they’ve had a rocky time in the past. Splitting shortly after they got together in 2006, the pair quickly rekindled their relationship. But just four years later, it was alleged Peter had cheated with a sex worker while on a stag do. While Abbey later described the experience as ‘horrendous’, she soon found out she was pregnant with daughter Sophia, now 14, and the couple married in 2011. And in 2021, Abbey admitted that prior to welcoming son Johnny, now seven, they weren’t in a good place. ‘We hated each other at that point, so I don’t even know how I got pregnant, to be quite honest. The pregnancy was hell,’ she said.
Even this year, Abbey said on the couple’s own podcast, ‘We live separate lives now. He goes to golf and I go horse riding, and then we meet at the end.’ But after coming through the other side, we’re told that the couple – who are also parents to Liberty, 10, and six-year-old Jack – plan to stay together forever.
‘Pete and Abbey have had tough times in the past – they've been honest about that, but they're happier than ever at the moment and rock solid,’ the source adds.
‘One of the main reasons for that is they've developed such a strong working relationship over the last couple of years. They're excited about what the future holds both as a brand and as a couple, which is the most important thing to them. This marriage is for keeps.’
