For all of us Adele obsessives, we’ve been hanging on her every Instagram post, comment or like for the last year. While she may be an international bombshell and singer extraordinaire, she rarely posts on social media and keeps public outings to a minimum – with the occasional headline-grabbing Insta post to keep us going.
So seeing the 32 year old smash it as the host of US sketch show Saturday Night Live felt like an absolute treat. And while her performance was amazing, most viewers were transfixed by her super slim figure, the first time she has properly shown it off since losing 107llbs.
Adele herself even joked about her glamorous look, saying, “I know I look really, really different since you last saw me, but, actually, because of all the COVID restrictions and the travel bans, I had to travel light and only bring half of me, and this is the half I chose.”
Appearing in multiple sketches where she showed off her angelic singing voice, debuted an American accent, and laughed so much she completely broke character - the new slimline Adele was a complete hit. Watched by 5m viewers in the US, her appearance was a triumph. One viewer called Adele, “a treasure”, adding, “I loved every minute of her on screen. Her personality rippled volumes in every sketch”. Viewers called her, “stunning”, and were keen to point out that regardless of her weight loss she looked, “beautiful”, “happy”, and “confident”.
The Grammy award winner – who split from husband Simon Konecki, father of her eight-year-old son Angelo - in September 2019 – is believed to have lost around seven stone in the last year and was clearly keen to show off all her hard work during her TV appearance and we're told the weight loss is all part of her plan to take Hollywood by storm.
Our insider tells us she was keen to show the world how proud she is of her new look.

“Adele is being wooed by Hollywood movie bosses to star on the big screen as a bona fide actress,” an insider tells heat. “There’s nobody in Europe or America with a hotter rep right now, and whilst she’s been getting these offers for years it’s hard to imagine her star getting any brighter, so the feeling is that she’d be wise to move now. While she lost weight for herself and her own happiness, she knows she is more attractive to Hollywood producers, slimmer and more glamourous. She’s so happy with how she looks, and her SNL stint was the first proper public debut of her new body and glamorous look. She’ll always be a north London girl, but this is her life now and she wants to make the most of it.”
Adele herself once joked about, “those singers who start acting”, but after her turn on Saturday Night Live, it’s clear she’s not just another wannabe.
“Adele checks all the boxes in terms of what producers and casting agents are looking for right now,” our source explains. “She has a huge fan base, tons of charisma, an infectiously positive energy and a fantastically witty and self-deprecating sense of humour that’s appealing to fans of all ages. The Brits who have failed in America over the years are the ones who take themselves too seriously, and that definitely can’t be said about Adele.”
The cinematic music video for Adele’s incredible comeback single Hello in 2015 gave us a small glimpse of her potential as an actress. She even admitted she wanted to try her hand at acting after enjoying the experience so much, and the video's director, Xavier Dolan, fully supported her.
“We got on set, slowly she would watch all the takes and I think she saw herself and understood she was quite a credible actor,” Xavier said at the time. “I think she's now saying it made her want to be an actress which is making me so proud because she was so reluctant to do anything close to acting in the first place.”
And it seems Hollywood has been waiting for the right time to pounce.
“The fact she’s been vocal about wanting to act down the line makes her a win-win, so now it’s a clear-cut race for her signature and she’s being wooed by a number of big shots who are offering blank checks to get her on board. The biggest A-listers can still command $25m or more for the right leading role and Adele would easily get $5m or more just for a cameo to start with. She’s already impressed in the various TV appearances and music videos she’s done in the past and nobody doubts she has the talent and screen presence to be a standout star in her own right.”
After hosting the show, she thanked the SNL team and audience, writing on Instagram, "I did it for the joy of it. She also appeared to dismiss rumours of a romance with grime artist Skepta, adding, "I'm going back to my cave to be the (single) cat lady that I am!" And with the singer also revealing on the show that she’s in the middle of writing her next album, it seems she’s in for a busy few months if she’s to start considering acting roles, too.
“Adele is loving this attention and she absolutely wants to move forward with a role,” our insider confirms. “But she doesn’t want to rush into anything either. She needs to decide whether to kick things off on TV, or dive straight into films – which is her ultimate aim. First though, she’s meeting with an acting coach and figuring out the logistics of taking classes whilst lining up projects to star in from 2021 onwards. She intends to take full advantage of her celebrity status whilst it’s at its peak – and acting has always been a huge dream of hers since the start of her career. Winning an acting Oscar would be her ultimate fairytale, without question.”
