The former child star caused concern when she jetted to New York alone and claimed to be engaged to a 19-year-old shop worker.

She then took to Twitter to make shocking claims against her father, which she later revealed were false.

She later said that the comments were the result of a ‘microchip’ in her brain.

Reuters reported that she said: "My dad never did any of those things. The microchip in my brain made me say those things but he's the one that ordered them to microchip me.”

According to the Bynes’ family laywer, Amanda, 28, has been put on ‘psychiatric hold’, which in the state of California can last up to 72 hours.

Amanda received psychiatric treatment last year following a very public meltdown, but appeared to be on the mend up until last month when she was arrested for a DUI.
