Whether you’re an avid soap fan or not, everyone has heard of the legend that is Deirdre Barlow.

For the past 44 years Anne Kirkbride has played the gravelly-voiced matriarch and become a much-loved Coronation Street character. From her massive glasses (which fortunately got smaller with time) and favourite belt, to her trademark stuffed marrow dish and her on/off tumultuous relationship with husband Ken Barlow, she was a massive soap icon.

Anne’s death, aged 60, after a short illness has left a massive hole in the ITV soap and to celebrate her time on the cobbles, here are some of her best bits.
