Ant and Dec's win at the National Television Awards earlier this week has caused controversy among fans of the pair and other viewers of the show. Although many were over the moon that they'd won for the 18th year in a row, others questioned whether it was fair, considering that Ant had taken most of last year off to recover from his addiction struggles.

However, the pair have remained unperturbed by the critics, even subtly taking to Twitter to hit back at naysayers with a simple retweet from a fan account which read, 'To those of you who are hating: Ant McPartlin hosted all 6 of the @BGT audition episodes last year & 3 of the @ITVTakeaway live shows, so he is eligible & they both deserve it. #NTAs.' [sic]

Now, the 43-year-olds have taken to Twitter to reveal that they've had even more happy news on top of their NTA win, as they've been awarded a Guinness World Record for the most National Television Awards for Best Presenter won consecutively.

Sharing a photo of themselves holding the awards backstage at the Britain's Got Talent auditions at the London Palladium, they wrote, 'The folks from @GWR came down to #bgt auditions at @LondonPalladium today and surprised us with these! How lovely! Thank you.'

The pair proudly presented their awards, which read, 'Guinness World Record Certificate - The most National Television Awards for Best Presenter won consecutively is 18 and was achieved by Anthony McPartlin and Declan Donnelly (both UK) as of 22 January 2019.'

Fans were utterly overjoyed for the pair, and took to the comments to share their joy. One wrote, 'Congratulations @antanddec still one of my favourite duos. Great to see Ant back, hope you are feeling better. So nice to see you both back together again.'
