Avril Lavigne gives THIRTEEN vials of blood as she battles Lyme disease

Avril Lavigne has given an insight into her continuing battle with Lyme Disease with a recent Instagram post.

The Girlfriend singer was diagnosed with the the bacterial infection last year, and the condition led to her being bedridden for five months.

Taking to Instagram she posted a picture in her doctor's office along with the caption: "This journey continues ..... Just reach up, don't give up until you've touch the sky ..... We were all meant to fly .... #DrOfficePhotoShoot @Hurley @amusesociety."

She also uploaded another that features a whopping THIRTEEN vials of blood, along with the caption: "On my way to good health #TakingCareOfMyself #F***LymeDisease."

Lyme disease is spread from the bites of ticks, symptoms can include pain and swelling in the joints, numbness in the limbs and paralysis of facial muscles, memory problems and difficulty with concentrating.

The Canadian star spoke about her struggle with the condition during an interview with *Good Morning America*, she said: "This is my second shot at life."

She continued: "I'm about halfway through my treatment. I'm doing a lot better.

"Seeing a lot of progress... I'm just really grateful to know that I will make [a] 100 percent recovery."

Earlier in September Avril announced her split from Nickelback's Chad Kroeger following two years of marriage.

In a heart-felt statement, she said: "Through not only the marriage, but the music as well, we've created many unforgettable moments. We are still, and forever will be, the best of friends."
