B_eats Presents: The REDO - Great songs redone by artists who love them_
Craig David has put his unique spin on the UK’s hottest new talent Jack Garrett's single ‘Breathe Life’. Recorded at the legendary RAK studios in London, Craig’s cover has the garage sound he undisputedly defined but fused with jungle, soul and R&B in what is a haunting and alternative take on Jack’s original electronic balled.
The song had its first play on Zane Lowe’s Beats 1 show as Zane’s prestigious World Record. Craig spoke to Zane just before the track aired about how the redo came together; “I've got mad love for Jack,” says Craig. "When you find an artist who is producing, playing, writing and can sing - there’s not many of them who can pull that off. I was a fan from the off. When I heard that song in particular I really like the way it was futuristic on the production but melodically and lyrically it was really deep with where he was going. I was like man, I need to flip this a little bit, I might have to get in there and do a little something."
The artist admiration flows both ways as Craig in turn was a huge inspiration to Jack: "I feel totally honoured to be part of this, when I got told Craig David wanted to cover my song and Beats were going to make it happen, I couldn't believe it! II have such respect and admiration for him. I have been so inspired by him as an artist. The way he took the song was exactly how i imagined it going”
Craig is the perfect choice to launch The REDO, an artist capable of linking the old with the new, the mainstream with the underground. He lit up the end of 2015 with his single When The Baseline Drops and 2016 is going to be stratospheric for both him and Jack.
