She’s spent well over a year waging one of the most bitter showbiz legal battles ever against her arch-rival Coleen Rooney (a subject strictly off-limits today), so it’s no surprise that Rebekah Vardy was desperate for a bit of light relief and distraction when she signed up to Dancing on Ice.
Four months of hardcore training later, and it’s safe to say that the mum-of-five has definitely found the respite she was craving – though maybe not the light relief. Still, she says she’s loving every minute of it…except, perhaps, for the fateful day she almost sliced her pro partner Andy Buchanan’s face in half.
Speaking to heat ahead of her ice debut this weekend, the 38 year old tells us why she’s working hard to nail every aspect of her performance...including swapping that “resting bitch face” for a megawatt smile.
So, how has the training been?
I never thought I could make something so elegant actually look so clumsy, but I’m loving it – it’s the best decision I ever made. It’s the most amazing feeling just stepping onto the ice, not having to worry about anything else. It’s quite liberating.
Have you had any injuries?
I seem to be the only one who’s ended up hurting my pro! It was awful, I think I’ve just come to terms with scarring his face. We were practising a trick – on this occasion, it went very wrong and my heel sliced his face open. He was fine, but it really made me realise that what we’re doing is bloody dangerous.

What are you most nervous about?
I struggle with the whole performance side as I don’t have it as my background. I struggle to show emotions, so that side is probably going to be quite tough, but I think we’re breaking those boundaries down!
How will you handle the competitive side of things?
Well, I do have a competitive side, but I’ve tamed the diva inside of me a little bit. My strength is my determination. I don’t give up and that’s my mantra, really – live by the blade, die by the blade!
What would you say is your biggest weakness?
I have this resting bitch face! I know I’ve got it but I’m smiling on the inside, I really am! To other people it looks like I’m miserable. Now the Botox is wearing off, hopefully the happy features will start coming through.
