Duncan James faces his toughest challenge yet – performing as leading lady Anthony ‘Tick’ Belrose in West End musical Priscilla, Queen of the Desert.
His intense three-week rehearsals before the production’s opening night started this week, and we caught up with Duncan at the MacMillan Cancer and Ego Professional National Blow Dry Day party.
He told heat: “It’s a bit like being at school for the first time, it’s good fun but bloody hard work. “I didn’t have to dress up in heels in Blue – I’m having to be in high heels, the craziest outfits you’ve ever seen and dance as a women, so it’s much harder than being in Blue.” But what’s he finding the hardest? Wearing Spanx? Underwired bras?

“I’m being taught how to walk in heels and wedges,” he explained. “It’s hard – I don’t know how women do it all day long. I find it really hard just to keep up straight so I take my hat off to them.”
The show follows the journey of transgender performer Bernadette, who is being played by Simon Green. Duncan said he's really proud of Caitlyn Jenner’s recent transition from her previous identity as Bruce Jenner.
He added: “I love Caitlyn, I feel so proud and happy for her that she’s done this transition and blossomed into a beautiful woman, because for years she was really suppressed and didn’t know her own identity, and now she’s stunning and she looks great.”
