Britney Spears performed in London and SLAYED

Earlier this year videos emerged of Britney Spears performing at her Las Vegas residency and fans delighted at what appeared to be the Princess of Pop back to her former glory. Gone was the scared and vulnerable Britney and in her place was a shining, glittering, unicorn-riding super woman.

There was a lot riding on Britney's comeback show when Apple Music announced that she would be one of the headliners at their annual festival in central London. A mad dash between shows at her Las Vegas residency and sessions in the recording studio involved a schedule that none of us could imagine Britney committing to just under ten years ago.

But being the inspirational pop star juggernaught that she is, she rose to the challenge. And we were blown away.

Britney opened with 2014's Work Bitch before shimmying into classics Baby One More Time and Oops… I Did It Again.

Brit even used her collaborations with the likes of Pharrell and will.i.am to act as mini interludes to see her through the costume changes demanded of the production. She steered away from slower tracks such as Every Time which may have disappointed fans, but the marathon Britney fest would not have been the same with such a gear change.

She performed the extremely raunchy Touch Of My Hand (matched with a super sexy dance routine) to bring down the pace but her London comeback was no time for tears. This was a celebration of Britney at her best.

Accusations of miming aside, there's one thing that you can't fault Britney on and that's her ability to put on a damn good show. By the time Britney closed with Stronger (AMAZING) and Til The World Ends the entire venue was on its feet.

Celebrities in attendance included Nick Grimshaw, Rita Ora, Daisy Lowe, Sam Smith and X Men's Nicholas Hoult proving that Britney's fandom extends further than anyone could possibly imagine.

And Britney made sure she let her human side show to the crowd. She joked around with a British accent before piling her hair on top of her head in a messy bun when she got too hot and sweaty from her dance moves (her hairstylist probably waiting in the wings with a brush).

And THOSE pap pictures of her emerging from the Roundhouse, exhausted, with her eyes half closed? Proof that she put every ounce of her soul into that performance.

Never change Britney, keep doing you.
