First came the balls, now the buns, as it’s announced that Brooklyn Beckham is set to continue his football ace dad’s legacy – but with a saucy twist.
Following on from the launch of his hot sauce brand, it has now been revealed that the eldest of the Beckham clan is set to launch his own burger restaurant in the US. And the name? Let’s hear it for ‘Becks Buns’. Thus far reserved for the pleasure of his wife, Nicola Peltz-Beckham, and soon to be ready for public consumption.
However, while the budding chef, 26, is said to be ‘so excited’ for his new venture, which will reportedly be based in LA close to where he and Nicola, 30, live, a source tells Heat that Brooklyn’s estranged parents, David and Victoria, are ‘furious’ that he is using their family name after distancing himself from them entirely over the past few months.
‘Under any other circumstance David would be pleased as punch over the name Brooklyn’s chosen for his restaurant, but considering the way he’s behaving, icing them all out, it’s pretty rich that he’s turning around and using their name,’ the insider says.
‘David’s told friends this latest stunt feels like Brooklyn is deliberately taking the p*ss. He knows full well that Becks is his dad’s moniker, and he’s co-opting it for profit, whilst refusing to speak to him, it’s outrageous.
‘And it’s not just the family name - that might be more forgivable, this is a nickname that David and Victoria made famous together. It’s always been ‘Posh and Becks.' It seems obvious to them that Brooklyn is trying to capitalise on that nickname and use that brand recognition to make ‘Becks Buns' a success. If he's so fine without them why not just call it Brooklyn's Buns? David is furious’.
Brooklyn’s new venture comes after three years of ‘feuding’ with his famous family – a rift that both the Beckhams and Brooklyn and Nicola had attempted to keep private until this year, when their estrangement became devastatingly apparent.
Brooklyn and Nicola’s absence from football legend David’s 50th birthday celebrations in May marked a huge turning point. Up until then, the feud had been mostly rumbling behind-closed-doors, but their decision to swerve such a special moment for Brooklyn’s family cemented the sad divide in the most public way.
Then last month, Brooklyn and Nicola, who celebrated their third wedding anniversary in April, secretly went ahead and renewed their wedding vowels in an intimate ceremony.
It wasn’t so much of a secret, however, as when they released a carousel of snaps on social media, it was clear that the couple had invited Nicola’s entire family, while the Beckhams, who appear to have been snubbed entirely from the event, are said to have found out about it by reading reports online.
Last week, the pair – who went on a rival holiday to St. Tropez on Nelson’s rented £85 million yacht while the Beckhams holidayed on their £16 million one over the summer – also swerved Brooklyn’s brother Romeo’s 23rd birthday celebrations with the family in London.
A source recently told us how Nicola is still struggling to move on from her feud with Victoria, 49, which is reported to have begun when the Spice Girl turned fashion mogul allegedly left Nicola ‘in tears’ on her own wedding day in 2022 when she ‘hijacked’ her First Dance and, whether intentionally or not, made Nicola’s Big Day ‘all about her’.
Now it appears that Becks Buns could also be a family affair, after it was claimed that Nicola, alongside her billionaire father Nelson Peltz, have funded the passion project.
And now a source says David is ‘devastated’ that Brooklyn has shown so much ‘disrespect’ for his family.
‘The way he sees it, even if Nicola is in his ear pushing him to do these things, it doesn’t really matter because at the end of the day Brooklyn’s a grown man and he’s the one making the choice to disrespect his parents this way,’ the insider says.
‘The sheer hypocrisy of it all really blows his mind. Brooklyn can cut them all out and pretend they don’t exist, until it suits him to exploit their brand. Everyone can see it’s breaking David’s heart to see his son behaving this way. This is not the man he and Victoria raised him to be.
‘They gave him every opportunity in life and encouraged every dream, to see him turn around and act like they’re just a name to cash in on is genuinely devastating’.
Once sharing an unbreakable bond, sources have previously revealed the extent of Victoria’s heartbreak at ‘losing’ the close relationship she had with her firstborn – a sad rift that has only been compounded by Brooklyn reportedly ‘ignoring’ his mum’s upcoming Netflix documentary, which is due to premiere next month.
They tell us, ‘David’s tried to brush things off in the past, but he just can’t do that anymore. Brooklyn has been so disrespectful to his mum, which is what really gets David the most upset.
‘He can’t stand seeing Victoria hurt and crying. Her big documentary is coming out and Brooklyn has totally ignored it. He’s walled himself off from the family to the extent that he can’t even give his mother, who has done so much for him, any sort of acknowledgment for her huge achievement, it’s awful.’
And now - in a situation that mirrors Brooklyn and Nicola’s new pals Prince Harry and Meghan Markles’ situation with the Royal Family – the source says David is unlikely to forgive and forget without an apology.
‘In some ways it’s hard to imagine that David and Brooklyn will ever be able to get past this,’ the insider says.
‘But of course he’s also a very loving father, if Brooklyn were to apologise and show some humility he’d be willing to try and repair things.
‘In many ways it’s very similar to what poor King Charles has endured with Harry, and the two of them just met face to face again, so anything is possible. But for now David has totally written Brooklyn off.’
