Ex-TOWIE star Charlie King has opened up about battling his sexuality on the ITVBe show.

Speaking to heat at last night's BFI Flare Festival premiere of The Pass, Charlie – who came out in an emotional interview with This Morning in 2014 – admitted he struggled to find the courage to be himself while on TOWIE.

"It just takes one person to speak up and say something," he pointed out.

"Even with my own struggles with my sexuality, I came out on This Morning and once you've put it out there, you can get on with being who you are."

Charlie, who hit the headlines last year after dating Sam Smith, also had advice for other people waiting to come out.

"I think we anticipate and worry far more than what actually happens. But it's going to take that one brave person to come forward while they're still working – as a footballer, for example – I think people would then follow suit."

The former reality star, who has just launched a blog to help LGBTQ people, added: "When you do come to terms with something, you accept it and you actually realise and embrace who you are [and that] there's nothing to be ashamed about or upset about.

"You know, this is who you are meant to be, so get on and enjoy your life."
