If there’s one thing this X Factor merry-go-round has got us talking about, it’s Cheryl Fernandez-Versini’s ruddy weight. Is she too thin? Should we even be allowed to mention it? Do we actually care?
Just three weeks after posting a rant about ‘skinny-shaming’ on Instagram, Cheryl’s back talking about ‘double-standards’ in beauty – and she reckons it’s “crazy” that people can slam thin women in a way that is seen as unacceptable when directed at larger women.
“It’s crazy double standards. You’d never be allowed to say to somebody, ‘Oh, you look a bit fat’,” she argued.
“And being overweight is unhealthy – it’s actually a bad message to tell someone who is obese that they look ‘curvy’ or ‘great’.
“But you know what? After this length of time, there’s nothing I can hear about myself that I haven’t already heard.”
It comes after an interview Cheryl gave* ES Magazine* at the start of September about body-shaming, in which she said it “has to stop”.
“It’s bullshit. Something has to be done, changed, even if it’s done in law,” she added.
The X Factor judge has faced loads of speculation about her body of late, including rumours about her having an eating disorder, which she was forced to deny by revealing grief about the death of her father-in-law had caused her to lose weight.
But viewers of Sunday night’s show saw Cheryl wrapped up in a warm coat while her fellow judge Rita Ora wore a light jacket to film outside, prompting many to tweet about her tiny appearance.
