It was meant to be her big moment in the spotlight as she joined a host of other stars at Paris Fashion Week.
But, unfortunately for Cheryl, walking the catwalk for L’Oréal last Saturday evening was not the dream experience she had hoped it would be – mainly due to ex-boyfriend Liam Payne.
We’re told Cheryl – who has two-year-old son Bear with the former 1D star – was pretty put out that Liam had decided to visit the French capital that same weekend, and make his red-carpet debut with new girlfriend Maya Henry.

“Cheryl felt that Liam had completely overshadowed her big moment,” an insider tells heat. “The L’Oréal show was the highlight of her calendar. She feels it’s a big achievement to be at the Paris Fashion shows. For her, it’s an affirmation that she’s still relevant, and has still got star power and is moving in the right circles.
"So, to have Liam go and steal the show with Maya was just infuriating for her. She is pretty annoyed, they totally upstaged her. As far as she’s concerned, they really didn’t need to be in Paris.”
Cheryl, 36, has walked the catwalk for L’Oréal on several occasions before, but this was the first time she had appeared for the company since they parted ways last year.
Although she is no longer an official L’Oréal ambassador, she has remained “a friend of the brand”, and we’re told she was excited to team up with the likes of Helen Mirren and Eva Longoria again.
Our insider says the date had been in the diary for months and she’d even cleared it with Liam, so they could arrange childcare for Bear.
“She let him know weeks ago that she would be there, as she always asks if he’s around for Bear when she’s out of the country,” we’re told.
“Her mum is always happy to have him, but she likes to give Liam the first option – and he didn’t mention anything to her about going to Paris. He only mentioned it was a possibility in the week leading up to the show, and didn’t keep her in the loop – so she was annoyed because she didn’t know he was doing red carpet with Maya.”
And to make matters worse, Liam, 26, and model Maya, 18, went to Rita Ora’s party, which Cheryl feels was another dig at her.
It was well-known that during her relationship with Liam, she wasn’t happy with how close he got to Rita while doing promotion for the duet they recorded together.
Liam recently admitted that, while he loved working with Rita, “It didn’t do much for my personal life”. However, it seems he can’t see what Cheryl’s issue is with him being in Paris at the same time, and insists he didn’t go there to ruin her night.
“Liam finds it all quite tiring – he had no idea he was stealing Cheryl’s limelight, he was going to his friend’s show and wanted to take his new girlfriend,” our source says.
“Obviously, that’s a sore point, too. Cheryl was furious about the Rita comment – she’s raging that he could joke about that, and make it so public. She’s disgusted – they were very tense times in the relationship, and it wasn’t exactly a joke that she had to deal with all the rumours about him and Rita.
"But Liam’s sick of Cheryl always being on his case – hence the flippant comment. He’s had enough of her giving him a hard time – plus, he’s now got Maya in his ear, too, telling him not to put up with Cheryl.”
Liam has been dating Maya for a few months and they recently went Instagram-official.
He has spoken about her in several interviews, praising her for being so calm and putting a smile back on his face. But the source says that he does always try to consider Cheryl’s feelings, as they both want to have as amicable a relationship as possible for the sake of Bear.
And, while Maya has respect for Cheryl, she isn’t a fan of her trying to control what they should and shouldn’t be doing.
“Maya wanted to be with Liam on the red carpet, and she’s not going to stand in the background because he’s worried about what Cheryl will say,” our insider says.
“Maya jokes it’s like he’s more afraid of Cheryl than he is of his mum. She’s amazed that Liam, who she sees as a huge star, would even take the flack he sometimes gets from Cheryl. But Maya wants them to be able to do whatever they like – she’s living the dream right now, and wants to be with Liam at all the events they’re invited to.”

As heat has reported, the arrival of Maya has caused some tension between Cheryl and Liam as she wants to make sure Bear remains his priority.
She’s also wary of Bear being introduced to Maya, but our insider says she knows it’s inevitable – she can’t help but eel slightly envious that Liam is in a serious a relationship, while she’s been single for over a year. And the events in Paris haven’t exactly improved relations."
“Paris was a bit of a turning point for Cheryl and Liam,as it looks like his attitude seems to have changed – which was probably a long time coming in some ways,” our insider says.
“He’s never seen the point in rocking the boat before, but he knows that Maya will not tolerate living by his ex’s rules. Obviously, Bear will always be his priority and he wants a good relationship with Cheryl.
"He knows what a great mum she is, but she isn’t the only woman in his life now. He has to try and make everyone happy."
