Chris Brown was reportedly shot at and music producer Suge Knight was left injured during a shooting at a party in Los Angeles on Saturday night.
The incident took place during a pre-VMAs bash hosted by Chris at 1oak in West Hollywood at about 1.30am.
According to witnesses Chris was the target of the shots but escaped without injury.
However, Suge, who founded Death Row Records, and two others are said to have been injured during the shooting and they were taken to the city's Cedars Sinai hospital where one was apparently in a critical condition.
Suge, who is the CEO of Black Kapital Records, reportedly walked out of the club where he was helped by police but is due to undergo surgery after being shot twice causing injuries to his stomach and arm.
Black Eyed Peas star Apple De Ap told TMZ party-goers ducked for cover as they heard four shots go off inside the venue.
Model Tyson Beckford was also at the event and Justin Bieber had partied with Chris earlier in the evening but it is unclear if he was at the nightclub at the time of the incident.
The suspect gunmen were detained by police while they quizzed revellers on what they saw.
One person wrote on Twitter: "Literally can't believe what I just witnessed. Someone tried to fire shots at Chris Brown at 1oak. Speechless... Prayers to all those harmed by this. Honestly still in disbelief this happened."
Another person wrote on Instagram: "What an insane night. The sidewalk was covered in blood around me from Suge sitting by the police car."
Despite apparently being the target of the shots, singer Chris immediately climbed onto a bar in a bid to get the attention of bouncers but security quickly got him down.
At the time of writing, Chris was yet to speak out on the matter but had tweeted before the party and seemed in good spirits.
He wrote: "Pre-VMA party 1oakla tonight! #XTheAlbum 09/16/14."
Music producer Suge has been linked to controversy before and has previously been accused of being involved in the murder of rapper Tupak Shakur who died following a drive-by shooting in Los Angeles in 1996.
Some also believe he was invloved in the death of The Notorious B.I.G. who was killed the March after Tupac with the second death being a revenge killing.
However, he has since told reporters he can't have been invloved in the killing because Tupac is not really dead.
