Chris Evans has paid tribute to Terry Wogan, who passed away yesterday after a short battle with cancer.

Chris took over from Terry on the Radio 2 Breakfast when the 77 year old retired in 2009.

Speaking about the broadcasting legend, Chris said: “Terry was like my radio dad. He taught me so much about be on the radio and not being on the radio.

“He was the absolute governor, and everybody knows that.

“If we all had 1% of what he had on the radio, we’d be 100% better.”

Describing him as a "giant of entertainment broadcasting", he continued: "There have been and will be few like him.

"One of the all time greats. Right up there with the big guns.

"He was radio's Eric Morecambe, Ronnie Barker. He was our Captain Mainwaring, our Basil Fawlty, but he made us laugh every day for two hours, and for over 30 years.

"All unscripted, all ad-lib, and always supremely assured. Unwaveringly confident. And do you know why? Because he never took any of this seriously. Least of all himself."
