Coleen Rooney is being haunted by her husband’s past antics after his encounters with an older sex worker were brought up again in a podcast last week. And now we’re told the WAG, who’s worked hard to be taken more seriously, is worried about what else might come up as Wayne, 38, prepares for his role as a pundit during this summer’s Euros.
The incident in question was dredged up on the The Rest Is Football podcast – hosted by Wayne’s BBC colleagues Gary Lineker, Micah Richards and Alan Shearer – after guest Paul Gascoigne joked about Wayne “going with a granny” early in his career.
A source says, “Coleen knows people make jokes about it, but to see Gary, Alan and Micah all laughing as they’re all about to spend the summer with Wayne was a step too far for her. It had a horrible ‘lads’ vibe and it made her worried about what he’s going to get up to in Germany. She hates it all being brought up.”
Gazza’s comment was a reference to Wayne’s 2004 cheating scandal, when the then-teenage footballer was caught on CCTV visiting a Liverpool brothel ten times. During one visit, he was said to have slept with sex worker Patricia Tierney, then 48, a grandmother who went by the nickname “Auld Slapper”. Coleen, 38, attempted to have the last word on it in her autobiography when she explained that she stuck by her man because they were drunken slip-ups rather than romantic affairs.
But, our source adds, “Coleen hates that he is still the butt of people’s jokes over 20 years later. She doesn’t want to have to defend their marriage again – it’s humiliating.
“It doesn’t bother Wayne at all, he laughs it off and says it’s tame to what gets said in the dressing room and off air. But Coleen has told Wayne to put a stop to them making any more references about it."
