They’ve had their fair share of ups and downs, but Coleen and Wayne Rooney’s 16-year marriage has recently seemed stronger than ever. Back in October, Coleen spoke candidly about their relationship in both her tell-all memoir and Disney+ documentary, saying she’s been able to forgive her husband and move on after a string of betrayals.

But despite overcoming their issues, sources have told heat she still has some reservations about Wayne’s behaviour. And, after he was recently appointed the new manager of Plymouth Argyle on a three-year deal, she’s been left feeling anxious that he could return to his old ways.

An insider close to Coleen, 38, says that, while she won’t be relocating with their four sons – Kai, 13, Klay, 10, Kit, seven, and Cass, five – she’ll still be keeping a watchful eye on Wayne, also 38. We’re told, “Coleen recently said she will not be moving down to Plymouth and will only visit Wayne in the holidays. And as much as she knows it's the right thing to do for the kids, part of her worries about him being by himself a long way from home.

“If she knew it was going to be a long-term job, she would consider moving, but there are no guarantees, and she won’t disrupt their lives for what could just be a couple of years. But she’s well aware Wayne doesn’t cope on his own, so she’s asked a family member to keep an eye on him and stop him from making any stupid mistakes. It used to be her brothers – now they have families of their own, but it’s still someone they trust and Coleen knows will report back to her. She feels comfortable enough that Wayne is in safe hands."

It's no secret that Wayne has betrayed Coleen’s trust in the past. As well as various cheating scandals involving sex workers, the former footballer-turned-manager was also arrested for drink-driving in 2017 while taking home a woman he’d met that night.

Our insider adds, “Coleen has seen a change in Wayne over the past few years, so she’s really hoping he has learnt his lesson and now he’s trying to make it as a manager, he has to lead by example. This is probably his last chance to prove himself, so he has to fully concentrate on that. Plus, he is away from a lot of his friends that she thinks are bad influences.

“However, Coleen has put trust in him before and been hurt so she’s just putting a few precautions in place to make sure she’s not humiliated again.”
