Strangely compelling originally-about-a-pageant-girl-but-then-not-really reality TV show Here Comes Honey Boo Boo has been cancelled after one of the main castmembers was revealed to be dating a convicted paedophile.
June Shannon – also known as Mama June, the mum of nine-year-old Honey Boo Boo – has reportedly been seeing child molester Mark McDaniel, despite him actually being jailed for ten years for sexually assaulting one of her relatives, who was eight years old at the time.
McDaniel was only released from prison in March this year, but a photo of him and June getting cosy inside a hotel room emerged this week.
She has reportedly denied the rumours, but to no avail.
TLC, the network that bought the reality programme, said it had no choice but to cancel a whole new season of episodes due to concerns over Honey – real name Alana Thompson – and her siblings’ wellbeing.
In a statement released to TMZ, the channel said: “Supporting the health and welfare of these remarkable children is our only priority. TLC is faithfully committed to the children's ongoing comfort and well-being.”
An insider also told TMZ that TLC would continue to pay for tutors and counsellors for Alana and her three older sisters.
June broke up with Honey’s father David Michael ‘Sugar Bear’ Thompson in September after allegedly finding him on dating sites.
In a joint statement released after their split, she said: “Sugar Bear and I have decided to take some time apart to figure out some things in our relationship.
“We are taking things day by day but regardless of what happens the girls will always be our #1 priority. We want to thank ya'll for your support.”
