Despite having a proverbial finger in more pies than Greggs sells each day (he’s a model, a perfume-creator, a dad, a fashion designer – the list goes on…), David Beckham has set his sights on a new career.

That’s right, the former footballer has decided that acting will be his next venture.

"I am very aware that many sportsmen and other celebrities have turned their hand to acting and failed," he said in an interview with The Times.

"I know that it is a tough profession, where you need a huge amount of skill and discipline, and I wouldn't want to push myself forward too soon, without learning more about it, and doing a lot more practice. But what I have done so far, I have loved. "

He says his high profile will prepare him from the scrutiny acting might bring.

"I can deal with most things. I am a well-known person, so I have got used to criticism," he said.

Becks isn’t a complete stranger to the world of thespianism, having previously made a special guest appearance in an Only Fools and Horses sketch for Sport Relief.

And he’s already landed a role in Guy Ritchie’s Knights Of The Roundtable, which also stars Charlie Hunnam, Jude Law, Eric Bana and Poppy Delevingne and is due out next year.

And while the leap from sport to stagecraft doesn’t seem an obvious one, we can’t say we’d mind seeing one of our fave footballer’s faces stretched across the big screen some time soon.
