Davina McCall defends ‘sexist’ comments on keeping your man satisfied: “Can’t really believe I’m discussing this”

Davina McCall has been forced to write a blog post explaining what she meant about “keeping your man satisfied in the bedroom” after being hit with a ton of criticism on Twitter.

Over the weekend, the TV presenter was quoted by the Telegraph as saying: “You must keep your husband satisfied in the bedroom department, even if you’re absolutely exhausted. Otherwise he will go somewhere else.”

She also discussed her love of matching lingerie, adding that her husband Matthew Robertson has “strong views on underwear”.

Over on Twitter, there was a huge backlash against her comments, with one user writing: “The problem w/ articles like this is that it puts responsibility entirely on women + ignores their sexual agency.”

Another said: “What complete trash is this. Men are not animals and women do not exist to serve and pleasure them.”

But in today’s blog post, Davina, 48, implied the quotes were blown out of proportion and tried to clear them up.

“Firstly, I do like to wear matching underwear... no biggy... I don’t do it for Matthew... I do it for me,” she said.

“Does he like my matching nude t-shirt bra and pants? No, not particularly... does that stop me wearing it..? No.”

She also touched on the sex issue, saying she does not “submit” to her husband, “nor does he submit to me”.

“My mum said, to keep your man happy, stay intimate. Sometimes, especially when the kids were very young and I was super tired, this was the last thing on my mind… has he ever coerced or pressured me? NO!!!” she went on.

“But have I ever started feeling tired and finished feeling very happy? Yes!!”

She finished off saying: “Can't really believe I am discussing this... every single woman I know feels the same.”
