A month after Demi Lovato was rushed to hospital following a suspected drug overdose, the pop star turned 26-years-old, and to mark the occasion her sister has taken to social media to thank the doctors who saved Demi's life.
Demi's younger sister, Madison De La Garza, posted the heartfelt message on Instagram along with a photo of the siblings when they were younger, saying, 'today could have been one of the worst days of my life, but instead i get to spend it thanking God, the incredible doctors, demi's team, and everyone across the world who offered their support - without all of these people i wouldn't have my big sister anymore.' [sic]
Madison went on to say, 'they seem so small, but those little things make up my sister - not a singer, not a celebrity, and definitely not what she's been described as in the media - she's a daughter, a friend, and my big sister... and i am so, so thankful that i can tell her happy birthday. #happybirthdaydemi ❤️'.
The singer has battled alcohol and drug abuse in the past, but had remained sober since her stint in rehab back over six years ago. She recently released a song called 'Sober' in which she revealed that she had broken her six years sobriety from alcohol and drugs. The track, released on 21st June, included lyrics such as, "Mama, I'm so sorry I'm not sober anymore, and daddy please forgive me for the drinks spilled on the floor."
A few weeks after Demi was rushed to hospital she took to Instagram to release a statement. The statement read, 'I have always been transparent about my journey with addiction. What I've learned is that this illness is not something that disappears or fades with time. It is something I must continue to overcome and have not done yet.
'I want to thank God for keeping me alive and well. To my fans, I am forever grateful for all your love and support throughout this past week and beyond. Your positive thoughts and prayers have helped me navigate through this difficult time.'
She continued, 'I want to thank my family, my team, and the staff at Cedars-Sinai who have been by my side this entire time. Without them I would be here writing this letter to all of you. I now need time to heal and focus on my sobriety and road to recovery. The love you have all shown me will never be forgotten and I look forward to the day where I can say I came out on the other side.
'I will keep fighting. Demi.'
At the time fans took to Instagram to leave comments saying, 'You're strong Demi. All your fans will be there to support you. We send you all the love you deserve!' as another commented, 'I love you, I'm so happy that you're getting better, always be careful of yourself,' and another added, 'So proud of you and your positivity in this hard time.'
Demi hasn't posted again since her statement.
