Doctor Foster

We don't know about you, but we're still reeling from that Doctor Foster conclusion earlier this week. Did we love it? Did we hate it? Are we just ridiculously upset at the prospect of never getting another series of the show? Who knows, but what we can tell you is that said ending was originally supposed to be very different indeed.

Yup - the show's creator Mike Bartlett reckons Tom Foster was actually supposed to stay with his mum Gemma, when the ending we saw involved him running away from his family troubles.

Bloody hell.

Speaking to Radio Times, Mike revealed: "The ending of the show unfolded as I was writing it. In the plan he's in the car at the end. They go back to her house and get a new kitchen and try to build a life."

So why did the ending actually change, then? Mike added: "Tom's not a little child anymore, he's going to make his own choices. And so hopefully it's one of those ones which you don't see coming but when it happens you look over the whole series and realise this has been coming the whole time.

"I was so involved in Gemma and Simon's story that's all I was thinking about when writing it."

Anything else to add, Mike mate? Will we be getting a third series? Um, nope. He elaborated no further, the scoundrel.

This all comes after Mike recently refused to confirm or deny another series of our favourite telly drama, telling Radio Times: "Depending on what happens at the end of series two, a third might not be possible. That’s all I can say really."

GAH we miss it already.
