Yesterday Ed Sheeran very proudly received his MBE at Buckingham Palace from Prince Charles, but when he received the highly regarded award, he broke royal protocol.
Ed was originally announced to receive an MBE back in June, for the Queen's birthday honours list, but it has taken until now for him to be officially given the award.
Yesterday Clarence House posted photos of the ceremony on Twitter showing the 'Shape Of You' singer shaking hands with the Prince of Wales, as he receives the award for 'services to music and charity'.
He made a massive effort turning up in a morning suit, and covering all of his tattoos, however he made a move that is not considered protocol when you meet a member of the royal family.
When it came to Ed's turn to meet the Prince of Wales to receive his award he shook hands with the future King, however he also touched the Prince's arm with his left hand.
Oh no Ed!
Royal protocol means that contact shouldn't go beyond a simple handshake! But if Prince Charles noticed he didn't say anything, although it was noticed by a number of onlookers.
According to reports, during a conversation with Prince Charles the 'Lego House' singer said that although he hadn't been asked by Prince Harry and Meghan Markle to perform on there special day he would be happy to.
After meeting Prince Charles, Ed told reporters, "He was asking me if I was still selling lots of records and I told him I've got a concert in New York tomorrow, and he was quite surprised I was flying after this."
It's been a busy week for Ed, not only has he been awarded his MBE, he is now in New York to perform, and he also announced a collaboration with Eminem.
