Ed Sheeran sings (WELL), plays the guitar, got an ice-cream named after him...YES really:

You know you've made it when you've had an ice-cream named after you.

AND NOW, he can add fully-fleged actor to his CV - he's landed himself a part in a gory new TV show.

The Thinking Out Loud singer got himself a spot in medieval drama, The Bastard Executioner, as the recurring role of Sir Cormac.

TBE, which launches in October, is billed as a "blood-soaked epic" telling the story of a 14th century warrior whose life is changed by "a divine messenger".

"Deadly" and "ambitious" is how Ed's character is described, and while filming started in the UK this month, the show includes includes Stephen Moyer, from True Blood and Katey Sagal, from Sons Of Anarchy.

Earlier this year, Ed told The Sun: "It's a medieval TV show and it's really, really dark.

"It's gruesome and it's going to be fine because my friend wrote it. I feel like people would expect me to be in a romcom or something, so I wanted to be in something people don't expect me to."

Ed reportedly teamed up with series creator, Kurt Sutter, the man behind Sons of Anarchy, after an exchange of tweets about, erm, biking dramas.

And it's not the first time the 24-year-old has appeared on the old box. Earlier this year, he made a cameo appearance on Home and Away while in Australia and also appeared in a live episode of US sitcom Undateable.

Aside from tucking acting and musician under his belt, Ed can also add, 'the-ultimate-wingman' to the package.

After having helped Jake Roche propose to his Little Mix girlfriend, Jesy Nelson, Ed also helped his Kodaline pal, propose to his girlfriend too!

In front of 80,000 fans, the Dublin band's bassist Jason Boland got down on one knee to pop the question to Etaoin Corr - with a little help from our fave ginger.

While on stage, Ed kicked off the proposal by telling the crowd: “Jason, you’ve something to say?”

Etaoin thankfully said YES - imagine the embarrassment if she like ran off stage or something?!

Jason and his Kodaline band mates were the surprise support act as they joined Ed on stage at the second of his two sold-out Croker gigs on Saturday.

Now we understand why prior to Ed's performance he tweeted: “Something planned for tonight you won’t expect.” You clever sod.
