Eddie Redmayne, Bad-ass Oscar winner Eddie Redmayne is set to star in a Harry Potter spin-off. Say whaaat?!

The actor, who won his Academy Award for playing Stephen Hawking in The Theory of Everything, is the favourite to play Newt Scamander in Warner Bros.’ hotly anticipated Fantastic Beasts and Where to Find Them, reports Variety.

Although Warner haven’t commented on this rumour, it’s been reported J.K. Rowling is making her screenwriting debut on this trilogy.

Fantastic Beasts is set in New York, seven decades before the Potter saga, and is based on the Hogwarts textbook of the same name and follows the adventures of its author, Newt Scamander.

Rowling told the website: “Although it will be set in the worldwide community of witches and wizards where I was so happy for 17 years, ‘Fantastic Beasts and Where to Find Them’ is neither a prequel nor a sequel to the ‘Harry Potter’ series but an extension of the wizarding world.”
