Her glittering chat-show career has been hanging in the balance for weeks now, ever since WarnerMedia launched an inquiry into claims of backstage bullying, racism and intimidation on set. But, according to insiders, it’s not just Ellen DeGeneres’ work life that’s in freefall.
Apparently, her and Portia de Rossi’s marriage is also feeling the strain, not least because Portia has become Ellen’s sounding board for all her concerns and frustrations.
Obviously, the actress wants to support her wife – who, as well as facing claims about her show’s “toxic” backstage environment, has also been personally hit by rumours that she is “mean” and “cold”.
So, who can blame Portia, 47, if it’s all getting a bit intense for her – and she’s now said to be insisting they make some changes in the hope of saving their marriage.
“There’s only so much stress and tension that Portia can take,” says an insider close to the Arrested Development star, who last week told Instagram followers, “I stand by Ellen”, and thanked fans for their support.
“Their home life has been really stressful, and Ellen is venting to Portia about all the criticism she’s getting,” adds the insider. “They’re committed to working through the tension, but Ellen needs to give Portia space.”
The couple, who married in 2008, are thought to have one of the strongest showbiz relationships. But, as we all know, these past months have been challenging for many couples.
