Ellie Goulding has revealed that Prime Minister David Cameron snubbed her request for a meeting to discuss homelessness with him.
Goulding is a patron for the Marylebone Project, a project which provides beds for homeless women, as well as education, employment and training opportunities for its users.
The 29-year-old told The Mirror that she and Mark Russell, chief executive of The Marylebone Project, received a "standard letter" telling them the Prime Minister didn't have time to see them.
The singer said: “We genuinely just wanted a chat to see what his view was on it. We’re not trying to confront him. Mark reached out to talk about the recent housing bills and received one of those standard letters, so I don’t know whether he even saw it or not.
"I’m sure he gets loads of requests," she added. "Maybe he’ll get back to us now. I can’t say at this point that he’s not interested, as I don’t know if that’s the case. It might be that he’s looking for an opportunity to do something.”
Ellie continued: "I’m so passionate about homelessness and trying to cure it and help, because I don’t think there’s anything worse than a family or a person not having a home.
“It’s not as black and white as it seems. So many people end up homeless for really normal reasons.
“It might be someone who has been in the military, someone who’s gone through a divorce, or a young person who has fallen out with their family. It’s one of those issues that can’t be ignored – it’s ordinary people.”
According to The Guardian, a spokesman for Cameron has declined to comment.
