Madonna broke down in tears at her Stockholm concert as she asked fans for silence and prayer for the victims of the devastating Paris attacks.
The singer was singing at the city’s Tele 2 Arena last night when she stopped to pay tribute to the people who lost their lives as well as the many who were injured on Friday night.
She said: ‘I need to take this moment to acknowledge the tragedy.
‘The tragic killings, assassinations and the senseless ending of precious life that occurred last night in Paris.’
She added: ‘It's disturbed me all day and it's been really hard to get through the show, because in many ways I feel torn. ‘Like, why I am up here dancing and having fun when people are crying over the loss of their loved ones?’
Wiping away tears she continued: ‘That is exactly what these people want to do, they want to shut us up, they want to silence us. But we won't let them.
‘There is no one in this world who should have the right to stop us doing what we love.’
After the silence Madonna sang an acoustic version of her song Like A Prayer.
At least 130 people are known to have died following Friday's attacks with a further 99 critically ill in hospital.
