The X Factor’s Bupsi Brown has hit out at Simon Cowell after she got the boot from the talent contest on Sunday night.
The aspiring pop star blames the music mogul's absence from rehearsals in the run-up to the first live show on Saturday night.
She claims she was forced to sing Marvin Gaye’s You’re A Wonderful One, which she’d never heard before last week, and felt she was unable to give a good enough performance to impress the audience.
Bupsi told heatworld: “I knew it was coming – not because I don’t think I’m good enough. The song was completely wrong. I wasn’t able to Bupsify the people the way they wanted and they didn’t get it.
“I didn’t have any input with the song choice. Simon rang and said, ‘This is your song.’ If I could have changed it I’d have done it in a blink. I’d have never chosen that song.”
The singer is “gutted” she was made to sing a song she was unhappy with and says it’s unfair other acts were allowed to change their track when they were uncomfortable.
Earlier in the series Simon was infuriated when he found out he would be mentoring the Overs category but it seems Bupsi is equally as unimpressed by the music boss.
She said: “I’m not going to lie, we didn’t really see Simon. The other categories were quite lucky – I know the boys had contact with Nick [Grimshaw] – and I thought, really?
"And I saw Cheryl [Fernandez-Versini] in the house talking to the groups but I really didn’t get that [from Simon].
“I don’t know if that was because we are the elderly’s and they think we’re all right and don’t need that parenting but we did. It would have been nice.”
However, Bupsi is willing to forgive and understands Simon has a lot of other commitments outside of the show.
She said: “It might look unfair but Simon has got a lot on, he’s a businessman and he might have a lot more on than the other judges, so I don’t want to beat him down with a frying pan because he didn’t turn up in the kitchen.”
