Ant McPartlin and Declan Donnelly could have come to the end of their iconic partnership, according to former Hollyoaks star Jeremy Edwards.

Ant's pal made the claims on Twitter, suggesting that Ant had 'had enough' of working in showbiz and that Dec should carry on alone.

Jeremy tweeted, "I love Dec on his own, gentle delivery, more grown up. Obvs I love Ant but maybe it’s simply time? For both their sakes."

Responding to a fan, he later wrote, “I know them both over the years and Dec was always the more confluent. Both equally lovely but a bit shy.

"I’m just worried Ant has had enough but keeps going for his mate. Dec is obviously v comfortable. I love them both."

Many of the presenting duo's fans hit back, claiming there was no Dec without Ant.

"It’s the two personalities working together that makes them so special," a superfan tweeted, while another wrote, "Ant will be the judge of that!"

Dec was forced to present Britain's Got Talent and Saturday Night Takeaway alone after Ant's drink drive arrest earlier this year, as he took time off to recuperate.

The star has had a tough year following the arrest, which saw him with an £86,000 fine and driving ban of one year and eight months.

Simon Cowell has defended him stepping away from the show, telling The Sun, "It's a wake-up call. It's as simple as that. Maybe the pressure was more than I realised. I will support Ant when he comes back.

"He's taken a step back because his health is way more important than a TV show. We want him back. I'm almost certain he'll be back next year. And we want him back."

We hope so!
