Former pop star Gary Glitter has today been found guilty of a string of child sex offences, including the attempted rape of an eight-year-old girl.
The 70-year-old, whose real name is Paul Gadd, was convicted of historic abuse against three young children between 1975 and 1980.
While the jury found him guilty on a number of counts – including four of indecent assault and one of having sex with a girl under the age of 13 – they acquitted him of three other charges.

He will now be remanded in custody until sentencing on 27 February, where he faces life imprisonment for his crimes.
Detective Chief Inspector Mick Orchard of the Metropolitan Police said Glitter was “a sexual predator who took advantage of the star status afforded to him by targeting young girls who trusted him and were in awe of his fame”.
“His lack of remorse and defence that the victims were lying make his crimes all the more indefensible,” he added.
Glitter, who had hits in the 1970s with I’m The Leader Of The Gang and* I Love You Love Me Love*, was arrested under the Operation Yewtree investigation that also uncovered Jimmy Savile’s decades of child abuse.
During his trial, Glitter had attempted to deny the charges against him by insisting he would not have had time to attack his victims after concerts because he had to clean his wig.
It’s not the first time Glitter has been caught out by the law – he has had previous convictions for crimes against children, included for possessing more than 4,000 indecent images and for sexual assaults on minors in Vietnam.
