Ok, so we're going to level with you. We knew GBBO was never going to be exactly the same after it made its big move to Channel 4. Mary Berry has jumped ship, for one, and we're still mourning the loss of the iconic presenting double act, Mel Giedroyc and Sue Perkins after they announced they'd also be staying loyal to the BBC.
But, to be honest, we were still kind of looking forward to the show.
We mean, there's nothing quite like an hour crammed full of tasty cakes and funny jokes, and we weren't quite ready to give up our loyalty to the programme just yet.
That is, until we heard the news that the new series of GBBO won't have any innuendos, like, AT ALL.
Speaking about the new show, a Channel 4 insider said that the new hosts Noel Fielding and Sandi Toksvig plan to approach the show in a distinctly different way to Mel and Sue, rather than copy their humour.
Speaking to the Radio Times, they said: “Noel has a warmth about him which we have been pleased with and Sandi is charming. There are no soggy bottom jokes on the first show.
“The show is modern in terms of its comic take and a lot of the humour will come from Noel’s surreal twists. We were delighted when we announced the team to see people on Facebook who were Noel fans saying they would watch the show when they hadn’t seen it before."
Yep, you read that correctly. No soggy bottom jokes. We're as shocked by this as you are.
But while we can't help but think that GBBO without any innuendos thrown in the mix is like a sponge cake without any flour, Channel 4's chief creative officer said that she's quietly confident about the programme will still rise to success... (see what we did there?!)
"It’s got a new tone to it; it’s got a new comic riff to it and I think that feels modern and future-facing," she said. "So it’s a show that a lot of people love but with a slight Channel 4 spin which is exactly what I hoped it would be."
Hmmm. We guess only time will tell.
