They seemed to have the fairytale romance after falling for each other on Strictly Come Dancing last year, but sadly Georgia May Foote and Giovanni Pernice have split up.

The Coronation Street actress announced the news on Twitter in an emotional message, which her ex-boyfriend retweeted.

Georgia wrote, “It is with great sadness we have decided to split up. There is nobody else involved.

“Although it was not an easy decision to make sometimes you realise that it is better to be friends and this is one of those times.

“We both have very busy work schedules for the rest of the year so we are going to focus on our upcoming work projects and we wish each other well for the future.”

Alongside the message, the actress added, “Thank you for all your support to us during and after the series. I love you all very much. @pernicegiovann1”.

The emotional tweets continued to roll in. The star later added, “Nothing i ever said about my feelings to gio were fake before people start. I still love him very very much. But things change.

“Please be respectful to me at this time by not saying awful things. This is a hard time for me.”

Georgia, who is set to star in Breakfast at Tiffany’s in London later this year, made no secret of her heartbreak when she wrote, “Gutted isn’t the word,” hours later.

Just days before, Georgia had also posted a gushing snap of them together and claimed he was her "favourite human being".

However Giovanni chose to keep quiet, instead tweeting about his excitement over the new series of the dancing show. Ouch.

The pair began their controversial romance after being paired up together in the competition last year.

The former couple met last summer on Strictly Come Dancing

While the beautiful star was in a relationship with Corrie co-star Sean Ward at the time, she couldn’t help falling in love with the professional dancer and swiftly ended her short lived love with Sean to be with him.

They wasted no time either, choosing to move in together after just six months after they met. Awks.

Oh well, there’s plenty more fish in the sea!
