When it comes to girl power, no one does it better than Spice Girl Geri. And last week it seemed she was embracing her motto when she dropped her married name on a video for Dior.
Looking chic in an all-white ensemble to celebrate Dior’s historical connection with Scotland at its show at Drummond Castle, she said, “C’est moi, Geri. Geri Halliwell”.
Pals have told heat it was a clear sign to her husband, Red Bull boss Christian Horner, 50, that she’s struggling to forgive and forget after everything she went through following his “sexting” scandal.
“Geri’s biggest fear is being seen as a pushover and the public seeing her as weak in any way,” we’re told. “She made a name for herself as a Spice Girl embodying girl power, independence and strength, so the last thing she wants is for this scandal to paint a picture of her as a woman who turns a blind eye and lets a man walk all over her. This has reminded Geri that she needs to get back to the woman she was before she settled down and turned into a lady of the manor at their country estate.”
Earlier this year, Christian was accused by a female colleague of sending inappropriate text messages. He denied the claims, but flirtatious messages allegedly sent by him were leaked online.
Geri and Christian put on a show of unity, with him praising his “supportive wife” after the inquiry cleared him of wrongdoing. And with Geri going by Horner in public, sources are saying her decision to use her maiden name in the Dior video was an attempt to reclaim control.
“She wants to let the public know that she’s still the feisty, strong woman the world fell in love with as Ginger Spice,” says our source.
“Her reverting back to her maiden name is part of her plan to regain her identity. Geri’s hoping that by reminding the public of her old self, it will change their perception of her. She wants to be an inspirational female figure. While Christian was upset by her video, he understands, especially given the heartache he put her through.”
Geri married Christian in 2015, and the following year, they revealed they were expecting their son Monty, now seven. The duo are also parents to Bluebell, 17, and Olivia, 11.
Our insider adds, “Geri’s hoping that reinstating her former identity will not only give her a fallback plan if things do fall apart with Christian, but could also help them get back on track. She wants to feel like her old self again – which in turn will make her happier, more confident and take away any resentment.”
