We’re reeling – silent, but still, reeling – at the reports this morning that “Silent” Jay Makin and Eve Woerdenweber off Gogglebox have split up.

We know, we know. Try and hold it together, for the sake of your working day – we know it’s hard.

You’ll know Jay because he’s the one who never says a word about, er, anything on the show. Ever. Eve and her family do the talking, while Jay sits there looking gormless (but lovely).

The Sun reports that Jay has moved out of Eve’s family home in the Wirral – but producers have decided it’s best he keeps filming the show with the Woerdenwebers until May, for continuity.

Jay told the paper (so, he does speak!):

“I’m gutted that Eve broke up with me. It came completely out of the blue. We had a few problems and started drifting apart but I thought it was down to the pressure of the show and her business. We argued too much and she said couldn’t cope with it.

“She called after a big argument and said she didn’t want to go out with me any more.

“Eve said she still wants to be friends but hasn’t spoken to me and has deleted me on Facebook. It really hurts, we were so close.”

Jay! Come here for a hug.

“It’s going be super awkward to film,” he continued.

“But the producers told us we would have to muddle through until the end of the series. They say they’ll try to make everything as painless as possible.

“The running joke is that I never say anything — so they say it won’t be a problem.

“It is such a shame. I wish we could work it out. I’m having to pretend to be happy families. They’ve even said they want us for the next series. I don’t know how that’s going to work out.”

Jay added that friends have told him that Eve is now seeing someone else.

This is simply too much for us to handle. Guys, please sort this out – for us, for Gogglebox, for Queen and country. If Jay’s spot on the sofa suddenly becomes vacant it’s going to be SO WEIRD.

Channel 4 has said: “Eve and Jay have split amicably. They’ve remained very good friends and will continue to film together.”
