Gogglebox's Scarlett Moffatt is renowned for saying what most of us are thinking, and we bloody love her for it. But how did she come to end up on our telly boxes each week?

All has been revealed - and it's totally down to Nelson Mandela.

Appearing on tonight's Alan Carr: Chatty Man, Scarlett explained a producer friend of hers got in touch to see how she and her family would feel about trying out for a new show - and her parents agreed to let a team into their home to audition them.

Scarlett told Alan Carr: "They showed us flip cards of celebrities and for ten minutes I was talking about Uncle Ben and savoury rice when it was actually Nelson Mandela!

Then they said they really wanted us on the show. That is bad isn't it?"

How can we say this, Scar? Yeeeaah. Yeah, that's pretty bad.

Scarlett Moffatt's best political quotes

  • "Ed Balls? You can't take any f*cker seriously with the name Ed Balls.

  • "I can't believe that in 2016… having to protest to get the same amount of money for doing the same job, but because someone's got a little more penis they get more."

  • "It infuriates me. I don't even understand politics but I understand that's a shit idea" - on the Labour Party's plan for youth employment.

  • "I'm not taking political advice from a f*cking hobbit" - when Martin Freeman urged people to vote for Labour during the last general election.

  • "I bet David Cameron would like this, wouldn't he" - when pigs appeared on Release The Hounds.
