A German documentary about the life of Heath Ledger resurfaced online this week, giving a glimpse into how he created his chilling role as the Joker for The Dark Knight.
In the trailer for Heath Ledger: Too Young To Die, part of German documentary series Liebling der Götterhas, Heath's father Kim Ledger talks us through the diary, which is filled with pictures of playing cards, hyenas, clowns, old Joker character images from Batman comics and lots of writing.

The scene from the docu-series hears Kim say: “He pretty well locked himself up in a hotel, in his apartment, for a month or so, to sort of galvanize the upcoming character in his own mind.
“That was typical of Heath, on any movie. He would certainly immerse himself in the upcoming character. I think this was just a whole new level.”

Kim turns the page in the late Heath's diary titled 'Hospital Room' which Kim says was one of the most interesting instalments of his son's scrapbook.
"The hospital room one was kind of intruiging, because his sister, Kate, would dress him up in a nurses' outfit. He looked pretty funny in a nurses outfit when he was a kid and he looked pretty funny in the nurses outfit in film too," added Kim.
A year after Heath died, in January 2008 at the age of 28, he was awarded a posthumous Oscar for his role as the Joker.
This award can also be seen next to the diary as his father flicks through the diary.
