Hip hop star A$AP Yams has died at the age of 27, it has been revealed.

The official Twitter account for A$AP Mob wrote earlier today: “RIP @ASAPYAMS.”

Yams- real name Steven Rogriguez-grew up in Harlem, NYC, where he founded A$AP Mob in 2007 with ASAP Bari and A$AP Illz.

Rapper A$AP Rocky (who would later date Iggy Azalea) then joined the group in 2008.

Speaking to the New York Times about fellow Mob member A$AP Rocky, he said: "Rocky’s like Luke Skywalker and I’m Yoda.

"We wanted to become big," but we didn't want to do it by hopping on somebody else's wave. We wanted to come in the game with our own wave."

The cause of Yams’ death is not yet known.
