We're not going to start wishing away Christmas, but we have to say, we're already getting pretty excited about June 24 - because everyone's favourite, Independence Day, is BACK.

The trailer for Independence Day: Resurgence, dropped late last night and has already been viewied 5.6million times... because it's amazing.

The movie brings new stars like Liam Hemsworth in, alongisde old faves like Jeff Goldblum and Vivicia A. Fox.

But one face missing is Will Smith... Nooooooo! We've know Will wasn't coming back for a while, and a new website, launched in support of the trailer explains that his character, Col Hiller died while "test piloting the ESD's first alien hybrid fighter", part of the technology earth has been using to protect against extra-terrestrial threats.

Show me the mooooonneeeeeeeey!

In the real world, it was apparently more to do with negotiations breaking down, when Will requested a cool $50million to appear in both of the two planned sequels. Wow, cool it Dr Evil.

A description attached to the trailer tells us: "We always knew they were coming back. After INDEPENDENCE DAY redefined the event movie genre, the next epic chapter delivers global spectacle on an unimaginable scale.

"Using recovered alien technology, the nations of Earth have collaborated on an immense defense program to protect the planet. But nothing can prepare us for the aliens’ advanced and unprecedented force. Only the ingenuity of a few brave men and women can bring our world back from the brink of extinction."

SOUNDS MEGA. But don't just take our word for it... the trailer's HERE
