Jake Quickenden has opened up about his worrying cancer scare

The former X Factor contestant’s father Paul died from bone marrow cancer seven years ago and his brother Oliver also sadly passed away from the disease three years ago, aged 19.

Earlier this year Jake admitted that he had a scare of his own when he found a suspect lump on his leg a year after his brother passed away.

He's now opened up to *The Mirror *telling them: ”I think going through a loss makes you twice as paranoid as you usually are. I am a bit of a hypochondriac anyway – my mum says I always think I’m poorly.”

After getting it checked with a doctor, Jake thankfully discovered that it was an old football injury. He said: "I’m a semi-pro player – that had come out of nowhere, but it was still important to get it looked at."

He then urged everyone to be vigilant about any concerns, saying: ”My message to anyone is that if you don’t feel well or you find a lump somewhere, just go and get it seen to.

"A lot of guys I know brush things to one side because they think they will be all right. But it’s better to be safe than sorry and swallow any misplaced pride."

The I’m A Celeb star also revealed his mother unforunately had a similar scare just a few years earlier, saying: "My mum had had skin cancer a few years earlier. She had found a lump on her leg and got it checked out straight away.

“Luckily, she just had it removed and didn’t have to have chemotherapy, but that had already been a massive scare."
