This is WHY James Arthur was busking in a very STRANGE disguise

What a week we’ve had. Not only has Taylor Swift teamed up with Zayn Malik to release a new song, but Nicole Scherzinger might do a song with Cruz Beckham and Jedward could be heading into Celebrity Big Brother.

And the weirdness doesn’t stop there.

James Arthur, aka comeback King and X Factor alumni, was spotted busking in London last month but he didn’t QUITE look like the James we’ve all come to know and love. And no one was quite sure what it was all about.

To say he looked slightly dishevelled is a massive understatement.

We get it, hipsters are to blame for shaggy beards across the land and it’s a trend that doesn’t seem to be going away (THANK YOU JEEBUS).

And there’s the whole grey hair thing that seems to have the nation gripped, too.

So teamed together, you could say that James was actually the most on-trend popstar of them all.

Except his new look wasn’t down to a commitment to fashion.

It was a pretty convincing DISGUISE.

The 28-year-old singer decided to transform himself with prosthetics (a bit like that time that real Adele pretended to be an Adele impersonator, LOLOLOL) and busk in Waterloo train station to see if he could get more coin than a rival busking band, and it was all part of a genius challenge set up by Radio One.

Of course, as soon as his aged alter ego Willy McNulty started singing it was pretty obvious to the crowd that James was underneath it all.

And who knew he could pull off such a convincing Scottish accent?

With radio DJ Nick Grimshaw waiting in the wings, he performed his hits to the awestruck crowd and did in fact manage to earn three quid more than his rivals.

Despite including a whopping seventeen tracks on his latest album, the hit maker recently revealed that he’d like to release even MORE music next year.

At a recent gig organised by The Sun, James said: "I would just love to put out another album because I’ve got so much shit left over from the last album, so much stuff like I could put out another two albums.

"More music. I’d love to win more awards for validation."

We like the sound of that, Willy.

Sorry, James.
