It's been a turbulent few years for James Arthur after he won the ninth series of X Factor with some serious, raw talent.
Unfortunately, the singer then suffered from panic attacks and erratic social media outbursts, which hinted at a deeper problem, until eventually he was dropped by his label after an initially promising start led to sluggish sales.
Now re-signed by Simon Cowell's label, and with rave reviews for his first single since 2013 (which has gone double platinum in Sweden), he's back with new album Back From The Edge, and giving X Factor finalists some advice ahead of next week's final. Except, er, he doesn't know what any of them are called.
After saying he "couldn’t name" them, James then gave advice to 5 After Midnight, Saara Aalto and Matt Terry (see, we can name them!), saying: "I always just say to believe in yourself and don’t try and be anyone but you. Remain who you are as an artist."
Speaking of his return to music, James added: "I didn’t think my new music would be heard again on this scale. I’m blown away by the reception from my new music. I’m really grateful."
He admitted to The Daily Star that he still gets panic attacks, and sometimes feels like he's going to "die": "It is the worst thing in the world. My whole life is geared to not having those."
"I just try talking about it as much as possible. The most important thing is to not let all these thoughts build up in my head because that can lead to a breakdown."
He went on to thank fans for sticking with him, and helping him get to where he is now: "My mind is blown. I can’t believe I’m in this position."
"I'm so humbled and so grateful to be here.
"This would not have been possible without the people that played some part in getting this album made and out there.
"And of course none of this would be possible without the support of my incredible fans. Thanks for believing in me."
