Big boots to fill for Mr Leto, but he seems to have taken the challenge on well and has even compared it to ‘giving birth’. Eh?

Yes, Jared has compared the psycho killer role to one of mother nature’s beautiful gifts.

After appearing on the cover of Empire, Jared told the publication he "took a pretty deep dive" into preparing for the part.

Posing shirtless in a long purple trench coat, he said: "There was definitely a period of detachment. I took a pretty deep dive. But this was a unique opportunity and I couldn’t imagine doing it another way.

"It was fun, playing those psychological games. But at the same time it was very painful, like giving birth out of my prick hole."

And as Jared's version of The Joker is set to take one of Batman’s greatest rivals into even further terrifying depths, the 30 Seconds To Mars singer also spoke out how he listened to 1920s gospel music, insisting he wanted to "break rules" with his interpretation of the character.

"I always get the sense that The Joker may be much older than people think. It's something different," he explained.

"If you don't break the rules, you're not going to strike new ground. I think I'll be cooling down for the rest of my life."
