"Never had a dream come true, until the day I found you" - the S Club lyrics that inspired a generation. Don’t pretend you’ve never heard 'em, we all know you have. Here is everything you need to know about lead S Club singer Jo O’Meara.
Who is Jo O’Meara?
Joanne Valda O’Meara (we know; it’s a mouthful) or Jo O’Meara, as she is more commonly known, is famous for being the lead singer of S Club 7.
When is Jo’s birthday?
Her birthday is 29 April.
Where is Jo from?
She grew up in Romford, Greater London with her mum, Barbara, her dad, Dave, and her two sisters, Julie and Shane. She uploaded a picture on Instagram as a tribute to her granddad Len, which is rather sweet.
Jo O'Meara and her S Club career
"There ain’t no party like an S Club Party," or so we have been told. Jo started her S Club career in 1999 when she joined the group and starred in the S Club BBC children’s sitcom Miami 7.
Guess how many of them there were. Go on.
Jo and the break up of S Club
However like all good things, five years later S Club 7 did come to an end but not before releasing some pop tunes that would stay with us forever including Reach, Don’t Stop Movin’, and S Club Party.
Jo, Bradley McIntosh and Paul Cattermole continued to perform in nightclubs and Butlin's holiday centres but that stopped after Jo was attacked in 2008 when she took a bottle to the head. She also sustained a back injury which meant she couldn’t perform for two years.
Jo and the return of S Club
Fear not! The group – back as a collective seven - returned in 2014 to do a medley for BBC’s Children in Need – a thing we always love. This prompted them to do a reunion tour called Bring It All Back 2015. Guess when it took place. Go on.
The performance for Children in Need caused got some, erm, mixed reviews. Ouch.
Jo O’Meara and her solo musical career
In 2005, Jo released a solo single called What Hurts The Most which reached 13 in the charts – not bad. The album Relentless didn’t do quite so well and she hasn’t released another solo album since.
Jo O’Meara and Big Brother
You may also remember Jo from her appearance on Celebrity Big Brother in 2007. She participated alongside housemates Jade Goody and Danielle Lloyd where they caused up quite an unpleasant stir because of their relationship with Shipla Shetty.
The reaction from this made her quite nervous about the S Club renunion tour in 2015.
Jo O’Meara GMTV interview
After everything kicked off following CBB, Jo did an interview with GMTV during which she completely broke down after confessing she only did the show to earn the money to stop her house being repossessed. She also said Big Brother didn’t offer her a lot of help or support.
Jo O'Meara's baby boy - not such a baby anymore
Jo is mother to Lenny Slate who was born in 2008. He’s named after her grandad.
Jo O’Meara and animal cruelty
Jo is an active protester against animal cruelty. If you have a look through her Twitter feed, the majority of it is messages about the protection of animals.
Last year, Jo and Lenny went on a protest march for the prevention of animal cruelty together.
