Johnny Depp is known for partying, so there's a possibility he'd got the party started a bit too early during the Hollywood Film Festival last night. Presenting an award for best documentary to Supermensch: The Legend Of Shep Gordon - directed by Mike Myers - the 51 year old actor looked confused, nearly broke his microphone, nearly fell over then swore.

'Watch, I'm going to read this thing,' he said, referring to the teleprompter, after getting baffled by the fact there were two microphones and appearing to not know what was going on. 'For decades Shep Gordon has been one of the most beloved and respected talent managers in the music industry, he is also the current star and subject of the documentary Supermensch... cos he is a mensch [Yiddish for a person of integrity].'

He then went on to improvise and, well, it didn't go so smoothly. 'I've been very, very lucky to have him in my life. He is someone I consider a great friend, an incredibly loyal friend. So you have to watch the film!' he said, then swore as he went back to reading the teleprompter - unable to read what it said.

'I mean, it's one of those nights' he ended with. Despite the fact he's got 'Wino forever' tattooed on his arm, the actor has reportedly given up drinking after stating in an interview: 'I investigated wine and spirits thoroughly, and they certainly investigated me as well, and we found out that we got along beautifully, but maybe too well.'

Maybe he was just a bit tired, then.
